اٹھانا

سنسکرت زبان سے فعل لازم 'اٹھنا' کا تعدیہ ہے۔ اردو میں ١٦٠٩ء کو "قطب مشتری" میں مستعمل ملتا ہے۔

١ - اٹھنا کا تعدیہ۔

"اس نے اس کو اپنے کاندھے پر اٹھایا۔" رجوع کریں: اُٹھنا ( ١٨٢٥ء، منتخبات ہندی، ٨:١ )

٢ - آغاز کرنا، شروع کرنا۔

 بٹھلا کے جوے کا ذکر اٹھا کر چوسر میں وہ لوٹتی سراسر ( ١٨٣٨ء، گلزار نسیم، ٤ )

٣ - (پانی یا تری کو) جذب کرنا، کھینچنا۔

"کیا خراب جاذب ہے ذرا روشنائی نہیں اٹھاتا۔" ( ١٩٢٤ء، نوراللغات، ٢٦٥:١ )

٤ - دے دینا، بخش دینا۔

"جس پر مہربان ہوئے توڑے کے توڑے اٹھا دیے۔" ( ١٨٩٢ء، امیراللغات، ٢، ٦٢ )

٥ - اختیار کرنا، قبول کرنا۔

 خون باری فراق سے گلپوش ہو گئے کپڑوں نے رنگ داغ جگر کا اٹھا لیا ( ١٨٥٤ء، دیوان صبا، غنچہ آرزو، ٢٩ )

٦ - (شاعر کے شعر کا پہلا مصرعہ سن کر) بلند آواز سے دہرانا۔ (فرہنگ اثر، 135)
